Recharging in Cancun: A Holiday of Laughter, Relaxation, and Unexpected Insights

Roxy Herring • Apr 07, 2024

Greetings to my beloved fitness family!

Coming back from an absolutely rejuvenating 11-day break in Cancun, Mexico, I'm filled with a few reflections I'm eager to share with you all. This wasn't just any holiday; it was a special time spent with my kids, my sister, and my nephew, who, by the way, is the MVP of making us all laugh!

The Joy of Family and the Warmth of Cancun

We found ourselves in the vibrant and sunny embrace of Cancun, a place close to our hearts. With the thermometer hitting a perfect 30 degrees daily, our time was split between total relaxation and the delightful company of my sister and my lively nephew. Having been to Mexico a few times, the allure of its people, the scrumptious food, and the captivating places never fades for us.

As a mom to a 17-year-old and a 10-year-old, I noticed they were keen on exploring a bit on their own (hotel only) leaving me feeling a tad lost at times. But let's be honest, that's the beauty of growing up, isn't it? They were both absolutely golden, as always. I feel so very lucky to be their mummy. We shared precious moments and deep conversations walking along the beach, away from the hustle and bustle of our busy everyday lives.

Fitness on Holiday? Yes, Please!

A hot topic on social media was whether I'd keep up with my training routine. Well, in those 11 days, I managed to hit about 6 sessions using my personalized training plan from my app. Despite the well-equipped hotel gym, the heat was a formidable opponent. While I always say holiday is a time to unwind and there's no must-do when it comes to training, for me, it's a vital part of my "me time" and mental well-being.

Let's Talk Food and Drink

Holiday for me also meant letting go of restrictions and indulging in some delicious Pepsi, hash browns, and tempura vegetables, among other treats. Yet, my body sometimes craved the usual nutritious fare, like the beautiful chia pudding with fruit and peanut butter I found myself enjoying. It's funny how our bodies communicate with us, isn't it?

I also enjoyed some lovely mocktails, sticking to my usual preference of staying away from alcohol. It's not about the aftereffects for me as much as it is about taste and keeping my schedule hangover-free. And yes, my love for coffee remains unchallenged, though I've switched to decaf (more on that in a future blog).

Coming Home: Jet Lag, A Broken Toe, and Mylo

Returning home has been an adjustment. The jet lag hit us hard, but thankfully, we had some buffer time to get back into our routines. And in a humorous turn of events, I've managed to break my toe yet again on a chair leg at home—this toe's fourth adventure of the sort. But we're healing and happy to be back, especially with our 15-year-old dog, Mylo, by our side. We missed him dearly.

What's Next?

While the holiday was a dream, getting back to my own bed has been nothing short of wonderful. I've been busy working on new training plans for the app and other exciting projects and delicious recipes that I can't wait to share with you.

This break was a beautiful reminder of the importance of slowing down, embracing the moments with our loved ones, and listening to what our bodies and minds need. Whether it's through laughter, food, fitness, or simply being, it's these experiences that enrich us and make our journey through life so wonderfully unique.

Until next time, remember: Unleash your potential, embrace the challenge, together we will conquer our fitness journey.

With Love,

Roxy
